Lynn Coleman ~ New Beginnings

On December 15, 2000 Cynthia de los Reyes died of a brain aneurysm. She was a 47 year old social worker form Orange County. Her family agreed to donate her organs for transplantation. After waiting almost 2 years for a lung transplant I received her right lung. After 30 years of lung disease I am able to breathe.

I had the privilege of meeting her family on May 20, 2002. I met Cynthia’s two daughters Erin 22, and Delilah 29. It was one of the most extraordinary experiences of my life. It brought a new dimension to my transplant. A feeling of peace and completion.

The meeting was filmed and will air in the fall on NBC. It will be on a show called "Life Moments". This episode is called "The Circle of LIfe". I was also interviewed at my home before the meeting. For more information about the show click HERE.

From June 26-29th I competed in the U.S. Transplant Games in Orlando, Florida. I competed in the 100 m dash, the 4x100 relay, and basketball. “Cynthia” was in my heart as I competed in each event. My team won a bronze medal in basketball. It was more than I could have hoped for.

Lynn and basketball team proudly show their bronze medals.

Lynn and her team members proudly display their medals.

There was also a spiritual dimension to the games. The power of thousands of transplant recipients coming together and competing in athletic events. The highly emotional experience of meeting donor families from all over the United States. Viewing the donor quilt was a heart rendering. Without my donor family this never could have happened. Thank you Erin and Delilah!
